Whole30-Day 4

I’m starting to worry I might be doing something wrong here… That or maybe I just bypassed the whole feeling like crap phase. Wouldn’t that be nice?! Haha. This morning I actually had a ton of energy when I woke up. Normally I have to snooze a few times before I’m finally ready to give in and get up, but this morning I hit the snooze once out of habit and just laid in bed until it rang again. Then I was up and ready to go.

I continued to feel pretty good all day, too! Normally in the afternoon by around 2-3 I’m just dead tired and need a snack or something to wake me up. Today, I was completely fine. It’s amazing just how quickly an impact cutting out junk has. I just hope this trend continues! 🙂

What I ate:

Breakfast: 3 On the Go Baked Egg Nests from Lexi’s Clean Kitchen, a banana, and 8 oz Gingerade kombucha. I made the egg nests ahead of time last night. The recipe made a whole dozen, so I should be set on breakfast for the next few days! They are very tasty, but I don’t think I squeezed enough water out of the potatoes because they were a bit soggy.

Mmmm…wholesome…

Lunch: Leftover Chocolate Chili from last night’s dinner and a salad with olive oil and balsamic vinegar

Dinner: Mustard Chicken Breasts (same recipe as the mustard chicken thighs, obviously substituting chicken breasts because that’s all I had), Oven Roasted Broccoli (hands down my new favorite way to make broccoli!), and some naturally fermented sauerkraut

Broccoli that’s actually edible!

Since I’ve been in health mode the last few days, I finally made a few doctor appointments I’ve been putting off. As I mention in my about me section, I have the BRCA2 genetic mutation which puts me at high risk for breast and ovarian cancer and melanoma. Shortly after I found out, I received a letter from my primary care physician that she was moving out of state, so I was out a doctor. Obviously when you’re high risk for cancer, you kind of need a good doctor to help you with all the screenings and everything you have to do.

It was sad because my doctor was awesome, and I’m really going to miss her. Now to top it all off, I have to go through the ordeal of finding a new one. I hate finding new doctors because you have to go through the whole health history with someone new, and they really don’t know what issues you’ve had in the past other than what they can see on your chart. Then, if you really don’t like the person you see, you have to do the whole thing over again until you find a good fit. Anyway, that’s why I’ve been putting it off, but today I finally bit the bullet, did some research and called, and I have an appointment at the end of the month.

I also made an appointment with a dermatologist to get screened for melanoma. I wasn’t dreading that one as much because there really aren’t a whole lot of options around here for who to see, and the doctor I chose came highly recommended. I’m really not looking forward to the screening though. Oh well, I have a month and a half to worry about it. 😉

Another, less dreadful, appointment I had today was with a health coach at work. She comes in to our office twice a month to work with any employees who want to make use of her services, and she can basically help you out with whatever health goal you want to achieve. I went in to see her today to do a body fat test and kind of talk about Whole30 and get her opinion on it. I know you’re technically not supposed to weigh yourself or do any other measures while you’re on Whole30, but I’ll just consider it my starting point. Maybe I’ll extend my Whole30 to a Whole39 since that’s the next time she’ll be in the office. 😉

When I explained the Whole30 program to her, she said it sounded like a really great plan. She said that it’s pretty much how you’re supposed to be eating anyway for optimum health, and I would probably want to continue on the plan when the 30 days are up because I’ll likely see such a huge change in how I’m feeling. That was some pretty good news to hear from someone who actually works in the health field! I was a little worried at first that she’d say it was a fad and I shouldn’t be cutting out whole food groups and things of that nature, but her response was very positive. She told me to stick with it, and I’d probably see great results!

    • Hey, thanks so much for stopping by and leaving a comment! It’s so funny how people can follow the same plan and have such differing results. I’m glad your Whole30 is going well for you. Keep up the good work! And yes, fermented sauerkraut is amazing. I’m never going back to the stuff in the can!
