Whole30-Days 10-11

Day 11! Wow… I can’t believe I’m already 1/3 of the way done with my first Whole30. After I read the timeline on the Whole30 site, I was definitely worried I’d be in for a terrible time for the fist couple weeks, but so far that really hasn’t been the case. Yesterday and today I have been feeling some mild ill effects, though; it’s almost like the first couple weeks of symptoms I was supposed to be having were all rolled up into one.

Yesterday and today I have definitely been feeling more tired than usual. Yesterday I didn’t have much of an appetite for dinner, so I only ate about half of what I had planned. My pants have been feeling the slightest bit tighter (and looser at the same time… explain that one to me…), and I’ve had a bit of GI discomfort yesterday and today. Honestly, none of the stuff I’ve been dealing with over the last couple days has been terrible though, so I’m hoping it’s just my body really starting to get into efficiency mode.

I know I mentioned in my last post that this week is Customer Service Week, and my company really goes all out for it with giveaways and treats. Well, yesterday was the most tempted I’ve been in the last 10 days to just have one little taste of something not Whole30 approved. They handed out frosted sugar cookies from a local grocery store, and they looked so amazing!

Baked goods are definitely my downfall. I’d eat them all the time if I could… especially cupcakes… I was so proud of myself though because I didn’t give in. The funniest part about it is that I’ve had those cookies before, and I know that they look a lot better than they taste. Even though I knew I wouldn’t really like the cookie, I obsessed over it all afternoon. I saw my coworkers enjoying their cookies, and my mouth just watered. Now if that’s not an unhealthy relationship with food, I don’t know what is!

I think that is what I am most looking forward to getting out of my Whole30 is breaking the psychological hold that food, specifically sugar, has over me. I’m already noticing a change in how easy it is to say no to sugary treats, but there are certain things, like the cookie, that still set me off. I’m glad I’m doing this now because I know that if I weren’t, I would have had the cookie, been disappointed, and ate tons of other mediocre treats to try and satisfy my sweet tooth.

Another revelation I had today that was a turn in the right direction involved another CSW treat. Our final food treat of the week was a frozen pizza. Since it was frozen, I grabbed one and thought well I can just eat this when my 30 days are up. Then I thought about it again and thought why? Why would I want to eat this less than mediocre pizza? It certainly won’t make me more healthy, and it’s definitely not one of those foods that are worth it as an occasional treat. Now don’t get me wrong, I love pizza! I think if I were to eat only one food for the rest of my life, that would probably be it (well, before now, I guess), but I’m not going to compromise my health on anything less than a damn good pizza.

So what did I eat the last couple days?

Wednesday-Day 10

Breakfast: Ham, Apple, & Sweet Potato Scramble, 8 oz Strawberry Serenity kombucha

Lunch: Chocolate Chili, Summer Squash, Salad with balsamic vinaigrette

Dinner: Banana and 1/2 cup Leftover Roast Chicken Soup

Thursday-Day 11

Breakfast: 2 scrambled eggs, steamed broccoli, fruit, and 8 oz. Cosmic Cranberry kombucha

Lunch: Leftover Roast Chicken Soup, salad with balsamic vinaigrette

Dinner: Lazy Pot Roast with potatoes, carrots, and sauteed green beans


I think Lazy Pot Roast is probably my favorite new go-to recipe even though it’s not really a recipe. I kept forgetting to thaw out a roast, so last night I cut up an onion and laid the slices on the bottom of my crock pot. I put my frozen roast on top of the onions. Cut up 2 large Yukon Gold potatoes and 4 carrots and threw them in the crock pot. I sprinkled a garlic and herb seasoning blend, some salt, and some pepper on top of the roast and veggies, poured 2 cups of beef broth over the roast and veggies, and then seasoned it a little bit more. I came home from work to a house that smelled amazing and a perfectly cooked pot roast that tasted equally amazing.
